Presidential Endorsements

This is a diary of Presidential Endorsements that I will periodically update.  It will include those I learn of and I make no pretensions of this being a comprehensive listing.  I welcome comments that update endorsements as the election progresses as I plan to update this diary periodically.  The more eyes we have looking, the more accurate this can be.  I considered piggybacking the 2008 race tracker David set up as adding a line to the bio boxes would not be too time consuming, but will try a diary first.

I am attempting to track Members of Congress, Governors, State Party Chairs, former officeholders, and other politically prominent individuals like George Soros or Donald Trump.

If I missed any candidates in the tabs let me know.  I plan to list the states and sublist by candidate.  Will do Democrats then Republicans.  The primaries are by states so listing by states can show where someone is running strong.

If I am not sure what state someone connects to I will list as unknown under the state of the candidate they’re endorsing until I can place them more accurately.
Unless I can determine their home otherwise, I list anyone connected Hollywood under California, and move them later if I determine where exactly they do in fact live.

14 thoughts on “Presidential Endorsements”

  1. I think it would look better if you organized your list by Presidential candidate, and then listing the people who have endorsed each of them, with states in parens.

Just my thought–you’re welcome to organize it however you wish, of course.

  2. I’m pretty sure almost all of the NY Democratic congressmen have endorsed Hillary with a few notable exceptions like John Hall (who has yet to make any endorsement).

  3. My Golden State should be quite interesting. Who will Speaker Pelosi endorse, or will she endorse at all? Who will LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa endorse? SF Mayor Gavin Newsome? Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez? Senate Pres. Pro-tem Perata?

The CW here is that Hillary Clinton is the favorite on the Dem side. Can a strong union backing put Edwards in the running? Can a great minority outreach effort put Obama over the top? And how will the endorsements change the dynamics of the race?

Hmmm… I can hardly wait to see that California list expand, especially on the Dem side.

    : )

  4. As a liberal who finds it difficult to get behind any of the current field on our side (Can’t stand Clinton, don’t trust Edwards, won’t jump on the Obama bandwagon, etc.), most of my enjoyment at the moment has come from watching the GOP candidates frantically pandering and tripping over themselves trying to get more of the party faithful behind them. Here are some more:

    MCCAIN:

Vulnerable Sen. Gordon Smith (R-OR). So much for the escalation being “absurd and criminal”. (I don’t believe Sununu and/or Coleman has endorsed anyone yet.)

Maxine Sieleman (IA), founder of the Concerned Women for America, also for McCain.

Also, while he’s declared he’s not endorsing anyone for a year, it’s fairly obvious that Lieberman wants to endorse McCain, but is deliberately waffling in the hope that Dodd will drop out so he can avoid bad blood. (Or that, should McCain tank sometime in the next year, he can smile and Dodd and pretend nothing was amiss.)

    ROMNEY:

Hereare some RNC members who endorsed Romney:

Cindy Costa, SC, Darrell Crate, MA, Donna Gosney, WV, Jody Dow, MA, June Hartley, OR, Louis Pope, MD, Lynn Windel, OK, Peter Cianchette, ME, Robert Manning, RI, Ron Kaufman, MA, Sara Gear Boyd, VT, Solomon Yue, OR, Tony Parker, DC, Vance Day, OR.

(everything else from now on can be found at the same blog, rightsfield, but I’ve got things to do in real life today, so I’m not going to provide more direct links):

    BROWNBACK:

Brownback takes 2 SC conservative leaders before Romney can pander them up:

    St. Sen Kevin L. Bryant
Hal Stevenson, former chair, Palmetto Family Council and noted conservative leader.

And these – conservative “family” leaders in MA, united for Brownback:

? Professor Dwight Duncan of Cambridge, South New England School of Law
? Anne Fox of Needham, Past Chairman, Massachusetts Citizens for Life
? Linda Kinsey of North Adams, Past Chairman, Berkshire Citizens for Life
? Carol McKinley of Pembroke, Founder, Faithful Voice
? Christine Milbury of Sharon, Director, Pregnancy Services
? Roderick Murphy of Southbridge, Treasurer, Life-Guard PAC
? R.T. Neary of Medfield, Past President, Massachusetts Citizens for Life

(Speaking as a former resident of Massachusetts, I’m not surprised at all. The MA GOP HATES Mitt Romney, whom they blame for singlehandedly ruining their party AND their state.)

    GUILIANI:

    – Pandering to 9/11 widows, but apparently hasn’t gained much traction. No surprises there.

    HUNTER:

    – Chuck Yeager, WWII aviator and famous test pilot. (I remember reading something about Yeager being a xenophobic asshole sometime in the distant past, but this clinches it.)

    HUCKABEE:

Tom DeLay has “silently” endorsed Huckabee by saying that the Huckster is his favorite candidate and, essentially, that he wouldn’t vote for McCain, Guiliani, or Romney to save his life. DeLay’s slick enough to know that his name associated with Huckabee’s candidacy would kill it dead, but it’s fairly obvious that he supports Huckabee, and might even be pulling strings on his behalf. (Maybe someone should look into this – it WOULD be a good way to kill Huckster’s candidacy if it were true that DeLay or what remains of his network was donating to him. Come of think of it, where did Huckabee’s silent millions come from?)

  5. John Kerry

    Edward Kennedy

    Governor Deval Patrick

    Boston Globe

    Boston Phoenix

Basically a clean sweep of important Dem voices in MA with the notable exception of Barney Frank.

Also, the former president of the Chicago chapter of NOW has an Interesting video on YouTube on why she switched from Clinton to Obama.

Don’t forget Oprah, Pit and Clooney.

    MoveOn.org

It’s too bad that some Dem/lib are afraid to back Obama because they think he’s a fad. I wouldn’t call Iowa a fad…
